Smart Tips for Your E-Juice

Smart Tips for Your E-Juice

by Clayton Musselman

Sometimes common sense just isn’t so common. Most of us get up in the morning, and we try so very hard not to do anything dumb. Most of us succeed. But once in a while, we’ll goof in a small way and we’ll we make it to work before realizing we’ve forgotten our cellphone, or we’ll leave the oven on accidentally and be a little amazed we didn’t burn the house down. When it comes to your e-vape liquid, you’d think it would be pretty simple. Pick flavor, insert into e-cig, enjoy.

But if you’re new to the world of vaping, there are a few things that might not have occurred to you. Likewise, maybe you’re an experienced vaper, but the occasional reminder can help to avoid easily preventable mishaps. Read on for a few tips for safe and smart usage of your e-juice.

  • Every bottle of e-juice should have a prominently displayed label stating that it should be kept far away from children or pets. Some people haven’t gotten the memo, apparently. According to a study performed by the journal Pediatrics, the numbers of children under 6 years old that have been accidentally poisoned due to the nicotine in e-juice has skyrocketed by an alarming 1,500%. We think it’s obvious that, if you’re going to enjoy vaping, you need to exercise some personal responsibility as well. Keep sweet-smelling e-liquids locked up and out of reach of the kids.
  • Along similar lines, many of us share our home with a dog or a cat. If you’re a pet owner, you know 2 things are true across the board. Our pets are endlessly curious, and they can’t read. Every year, veterinarians admit pets that have ingested e-juice and poisoned themselves. For cats, it’s particularly serious, since propylene glycol that’s found in e-liquid can severely damage their red blood cells. Do the right thing and keep your e-juice away from prying paws and curious noses.
  • If you’re a vaping newbie, there’s a lot to learn. One mistake made frequently is buying e-juice with the right amount of nicotine. Too little, and your initial puffs are liable to be a disappointment. Too much, and you’ll have a fun-filled day dealing with nicotine poisoning. Maybe it doesn’t sound too bad, but it involves nausea, headaches, and insomnia, for starters. But most people that previously smoked a pack a day of cigarettes started off with 18mg-24mg worth of nicotine in their e-juice. We always recommend starting at low dosages, then gradually increasing it until you find your sweet spot. Try to start with small amounts, like 3mg-6 mg. Odds are you’ll spend a little money figuring out the right level, but it’s better to experiment than deal with nicotine poisoning.

To sum up, we’re obviously big fans of vaping, but we’re bigger believers in being responsible about it. If you have kids, keep those sweet smelling vials of e-juice far away and locked up. If you have pets, don’t let paws and noses get close to your juice. If you’re new to vaping, start with low concentrations of nicotine and gradually increase it until you get to where you’re happy.
